Randomly, I can't believe Brittany Murphy is dead. I just saw that on twitter. I have to admit that my first thought was drug overdose, but I read that she went into cardiac arrest & couldn't be revived. The EMT inside of me wonders how long she was down before someone began CPR & whether or not they knew what the hell they were doing. Also, how long did they work on her before pronouncing it...

My task for the evening is looking up medical reasons why a healthy 32 year old female would go into sudden cardiac arrest. My first guess...bulimia... *shrugs*

After several months of intense studying and stress I'm at a loss...

I have no motivation to go to my usual volunteer shift at the local Salvation Army site. I feel mentally exhausted & emotionally drained. Yesterday was the scariest day of my entire life. I've never been nervous for a test...ever! My nerves started to get the best of me earlier in the day, but with the coaching & motivation of one of my instructors I found the courage to do the damn thing. The result, I'm one step closer to certification! :)

I couldn't tell by the train car from the film, but I did see that he got off at the 23rd Street station. I'll have to see what train(s) have a stop there. I'm not sure how I would have reacted to this in person, but watching this video has been the highlight of my Sunday morning! I laughed so hard I think I woke up all of my neighbors! Valentine's Day

I've been trying to figure out how I'll be spending my time this Valentine's Day. For the past few years I've gradually lost the romantic flutter in my heart. I've decided to enjoy my time with a few friends at one of the sports bars in mid-town enjoying the NBA All-Star festivities. I'm looking forward to the slam dunk contest. Far from romantic, but definitely high ranking on my list of enjoyable activities. I can't help but thinking that the NBA was feeling particularly cruel this year by scheduling All-Star Weekend the same weekend as the one holiday most women demand their man's undivided attention. I predict the abrupt termination of a significant number of relationships before the All-Star Game on Sunday! Hahaha...

I love my mom beyond what words can describe. I am happy to be home now because I call tell her this everyday…in person! I am glad that, unlike some I’ve met, I was able to appreciate my mom for the individual that she is at a very young age. Since this epiphany our relationship has grown into a friendship I cannot imagine living without.

Some victims from Hudon River plane crash want more compensation

Has anyone else heard this nonsense? Some of the people who survived the plane crash in the Hudson are demanding more money and God knows what else. Can you believe this? The airline already gave every passenger $5,000 & the option of one year of free upgrades. Personally, I think the money is more than enough. These people should be happy and fucking grateful that they are even alive. They should be flooding the pilot's mailbox with thank you letters. They should be holding thank you ceremonies for the hundreds of emergency workers and concerned citizens who sped to their rescue and SAVED THEIR FUCKING LIVES! It has been determined that the engine failure was NOT due to pilot or technical error. Mother Nature was the culprit and last time I checked, she didn't have a bank account. That must be why these ungrateful bastards are planning on suing the airline.
I'm forced to reflect on and question the greediness of these people. Maybe they just need counseling to deal with experiencing such a traumatic event. I still do not think the airline should be held responsible for that expense. All of the airline's staff did everything to ensure everyone's safety. If anyone should be getting more money I think it should be the emergency workers who risked their lives to save these ungrateful bastards.

Donating Blood

Other than the joy of coming home and weighing myself to see that I am 1lb. lighter (one pint of blood weighs about one pound) I choose to donate my blood regularly for several reasons. The first being the fact that I can get it back! Hahaha. The human body is amazing and I marvel at the fact that I am able to donate yet another pint of blood within only 56 days of my last donation. That is why I try to give blood at least every 2 months.

The most important reason I give blood is because my blood type (O+) is the most common blood type and I am able to give to most other types. Nearly half of all Black and Hispanic Americans share my blood type (source) so I feel somewhat morally obligated to donate my blood knowing that and the fact that Black and Hispanic Americans are more likely to be victims of violent crimes (source). I am assuming (and going against one of the Four Agreements) that many of these people will require blood replacement. Well, not really assuming. I will find a source for this statement later, but I think many of my readers already know a few sources of their own.

I felt the need to blog about this because guess what? I'm going to donate today! The volunteers at these blood drives are always way too enthusiastic and it feels like they always offer me orange juice! For those of you that do not know, I'm allergic to oranges. :(

Recently, in a forum, we were asked to recount memorable High School experiences. Mine finally came to me. The ski trip! My school and several other neighboring schools' senior High School classes rented out a resort in Upstate New York. It was the most fun I'd ever had with all of my friends, but I don't remember most of it. I do, however, remember every minute of the paintball competition! The thrill of stealthily picking off enemy targets from behind shrubs. The sting of being shot in the hand at close range (about 3 feet away) by a cheater! WTF, we were all warned about the 20 foot rule! Bastard! *takes a deep breath* I digress...

We were all obsessed with N64's 007 and this paintball competition was our opportunity to be the ruthless snipers, cold hearted killers, and expert marksmen we thought we were (*ahem* and still are) in person. And oh dear God...the mountain...that the organizers affectionately referred to as a "hill." I know I'm a city girl, but that was a goddamn mountain! Running up and down the sides left me at least 5lbs. lighter!

My friends and I were all talk afterwards about recreating those moments of euphoria. I wish we could do it again. I'm really going to try to make it happen! The gear isn't as expensive as I was imagining it would be at paintball.com. I definitely want my own mask this time. I may have to invest in a gun to keep in my car so that I can shoot paintballs at some of the stupid NYC drivers when they piss me off. Hahaha. Totally a joke! Maybe not...I wonder how much trouble I'd get in if I got caught...

My Newest Adventure

I'd always been curious about speed dating. I've never been to an actual event, so that makes my next statement seem a bit off (which only means that it is genuinely a Shameka thing!). I recently expressed interest in hosting several events! I half expected a rejection. I know, how the hell to half expect anything? Anyway, I interviewed via telephone with one of the recruiters for my region and was instantaneously offered a position. I think my cheerleader personality and persuasive selling skills (yeah right) won her over. Hahaha...
I think the opportunity will be fun. The money to be made is only a perk. Now that I'm back in NYC and unemployed I feel like I waste most of my daytime hours waiting around for my friends to get out of work so I can harass them. This little project will keep my busy and entertained. I'll get a chance to hone my superb marketing skills to reel in potential speed daters. Then I'll get the chance to allow my sparkling personality and gracious hostess skills to shine when I finally host the events. Questions, comments & concerns people?

Racism and Prejudice in the City

I haven't been down here long enough, neither have I done any research on the topic, but I felt like speaking on the issue. One thing I must clear (thank you Chrys for making it obvious for me) is that racism and prejudice are not the same thing. I often hear people using both words interchangably and I cringe inside every time I do.

Racism is a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race.

Prejudice is a preconceived judgment or opinion.

Since I've been back I have yet to witness any blatant acts of racism. I have however, been unfortunate enough to witness prejudice. The incidents that I witnessed made me feel uncomfortable, upset, annoyed, and slightly enraged. Each person's behavior yelled ignorance. All instances involved a Black American and an individual of Hispanic decent. Seeing people from both ethic minority groups squabble over insignificant resources reminds me of the 80/20 rule. Why is 80% of the population still fighting over only 20% of the pie? Most importantly, why are we fighting each other instead of those who have control over the other 80%? We all have so much in common that we seperate ourselves based on stupid qualifiers such as race and ethnicity. It is one thing to be proud of who you are. It is completely different to be racist. The line is not a fine one.

This place pisses me off sometimes. How's an INFP supposed to survive in a world like this?

I always felt that slight sting of sadness like I was missing out on something that only the priviledged had access to when I was forced to skip the field titled enter coupon code here. I wondered how much extra I could save if I had been solicited as a customer. Now I know! Up to 15%! That’s the deepest discount I’ve seen on the site and they have a $5 per friend referral program. Man demands donated kidney back from wife during divorce

Call me old-fashioned, but when I marry someone it will literally be until death does us apart. If I have the means to save your life then I will. If you betray the sanctity of our marraige AND have the nerve to request a divorce from me AFTER I donated MY kidney to save your damn life...you best believe I am going to want it back.
Of course these people had to be New Yorkers. Not that his profession matters, but the man is a doctor who donated his kidney to his wife and mother of his three children in 2001. He knows how unrealistic it is to receive the actual kidney so he is requesting the kidney's estimated value of $1.5million. She filed for divorce in 2005 and this incident seems to be the peak of the bitter battle. He states that he doesn't want anything from her except for the value of the kidney he donated to save her life.

I don't wear much of it actually. I have my college ring and a necklace with a name plate. Both were gifts from my parents and the sentimental value of each compels me to keep them on 24/7. I have tons of seed beads in storage right now and I randomly feel motivated to create a piece of jewelry. Oooh, and my airbrush is in storage too! Lately my creative colors of choice have been pink, red, and all shades of green. I'm thinking the seed beads may be too small and take too long to satisfy my thirst for instantaneous gratification unless I make Eyeglass Holders or use larger beads to replicate Beaded Bracelets like these. I think being surrounded by the fashionable NYC scene has sparked my creative side. I might spend the rest of my day window shopping for ideas and sources of inspiration. I will have to be on guard to keep my window shopping just that and not spend any money. Unless of course, I'm browsing Electric Generators! Hahaha... I'm going to be staying with Wayne for the next few weeks and if the power goes out again I am going to cry because it is cold as hell and I want more heat than the woodstove could provide.

I'd like to set the record straight. Even the INFP that I am would not altruistically endorse anything without some sort of quid pro quo agreement. I've learned the hard way that links to "exciting offers" and "once in a lifetime opportunities" are NEVER what they are advertised to be. And now you ask, what am I setting straight?

If you've visited my blog on any occasion or if this is your first time I'm sure you've noticed the linked image at the end of each of my posts that says, "Get paid to review my post." Hopefully, you've clicked the link and followed it! But, if not I'll give you the scoop and I harbor no bad feelings. Hehehe...

I'll start with what I get. If you haven't noticed, I'm not a sales person so don't expect this post to be persuasive. I just want it to be informative! For every person that signs up with PayPerPost through my referral link (*hint**hint*) I receive $7.50 ONLY AFTER they have submitted a blog (that has been reviewed and approved) AND have written a review of any one of my random blog posts.

What would you get? Again, ONLY AFTER you have submitted a blog (that has been reviewed and approved) AND have written a review of any one of my random blog posts you receive $7.50 and a PayPerPost membership which entitles you to reserve paid blog opportunities that literally pay you for every post you make. The lowest offer I've seen for a post is $5 and the most from the currently active opportunities is $20.50 per post.

The bad: I can only speak from my very limited experience with PayPerPost, but the only snag I've had so far was during the blog approval phase. Everyone is eager to make money from their blogs and I'm sure these guys are swamped with new membership requests. Anyway, it took them two weeks to approve my blog. After the first week of not hearing anything I was like, wtf is going on?! I emailed them and they were nothing other than polite and professional in their response. They explained the situation and in what seemed like only hours (might have been a day or two) my blog was approved.

The good: You can really get paid for blogging about things you LOVE or HATE. Most of the offers just want traffic (or maybe links) to their sites. As we can see even with celebrities, bad press is still press and it keeps the buzz going. So there is no faking a tone or endorsing anything that you don't like. One of the best things they have is a firefox plug-in that has several nifty functions. As you are browsing it scans the site and searches the PayPerPost blogger opportunity database and alerts you to current opportunities associated with whatever you are viewing. The plug-in also has a button you can click to notify PayPerPost of a site you'd like to blog about when there are no current opportunities associated with it. Lastly, you would also have the opportunity to (like me, so PLEASE use my referral link if you decide to join) earn $7.50 or $15 for every new member that you recruit. You have the option of direct referrals without having people review your blog and that is how you can earn $15.

At first glance, I like this site. The layout is aesthetically appealing to me and the ease of use ranks highly too. I ended up registering as a member because unlike iLike you can rate movies as well as music and games. I especially love that you can express your utter disdain for the crap that you've had to endure and/or waste money on. I am sure that there will be plenty of Movie Reviews of that nature coming from me. I cannot even remember the last film I saw in a theater. Probably because PTSD prevents me from doing so! Hahaha! But, I digress...

The most appealing aspect definitely has the be the social networking design. Users are allowed to create somewhat detailed profiles that list the usual stats (age, location, contact info, etc.). There's a limited number of items available to hype just by clicking on an image and this is because the list of available items to hype is totally user driven. Good and bad.... Good because the first person to hype an item has it linked to them indefinitely. So, whenever any other user wants to rate an item they have to visit your profile. Even a social media novice knows how sweet this is for networking. Bad because, well, I'm lazy and when I saw the amount of information I'd have to enter about Nas just to rate one of his songs I passed on the opportunity.

I will not however pass on the opportunity to rip apart the last movie wasted money on in the Action Movie Reviews section!

Right now, I am trying not to take a lot of things personally. I opened up to someone who hurt me recently and I am still licking the wound from that. I trust without caution. I really think everyone (well, almost everyone) is genuinely a good person and their concern for others runs as deep to their core as mine. "What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream;" therefore it is impossible for me to have any expectations associated with another individual's behavior. I forgot that truth for a brief period in my life and now that it has been reaffirmed in my heart the "needless suffering" has mostly disappeared. I need to remind myself that I am experiencing my reality as the INFP that I totally am. It still sort of bothers me that Mother Theresa was an INFP too. I mean, I care about people, but totally in a selfish way. Hahaha...

All jokes aside, I'm glad to be back. I had to slide into hibernation for some soul searching and mental regeneration. I return well rested and ready to take on the world despite the ice storm that passed through the area. It was a minor inconvenience to put it lightly! A lot of my friends went for days without power. I brought pizza over to one of my closest friends who lives in Sand Lake, NY aka the butt fuck of NOWHERE! Poor thing, he hadn't had hot food to eat for days until I showed up! It was great to see local shelters popping up everywhere and people offering their neighbors a place to stay. I think I know exactly what gift he will be receiving from me for christmas...

I was watching an episode of Def Comedy Jam last night. Tony Roberts was one of the comedians. He is effing hilarious. I found it on YouTube and I HAD to share. The first minute and a half he starts singing a song titled, "You need your ass beat." The lyrics are true to the chorus. It made me start thinking about some "You need your ass beat" moments. The first thing that came to mind is the scenario of the guy (and it is almost always a male) that drives a Hummer or some other outrageously priced gas-guzzling vehicle, but still lives with his parents because he makes just enough to afford his car payment, gas, and unlimited texting plan for his blackberry. The next comes from my experience as a case manager for homeless families. I would often have to visit the lovely Department of Social Services with a client and see one or two individuals there with an outfit on that I knew cost more than my month's salary. Topped off with their newest gadget either clipped to their waist or in their hand. I always had to stop myself from going up to them and saying..."You need your ass beat." Hahaha...

Well, for those of you who know me you know that I wouldn't lie. I still cannot believe these people paid me $25 to tell them my smoking preferences. I've been a member at this site for a few months and I'm the "casual survey taker." Meaning that I usually delete the emails they send me except about once a month on a Sunday when I'm bored and all of my friends have plans I take 5-10 surveys. I made $17 so far that way. I'm excited that they have paypal now and I won't have to wait around for a check. I had to do some digging for a referral link but I found one! Black Friday shoppers never cease to amaze me. I became fascinated with them back when tickle me Elmo was the rage. People were on the news standing outside in front of stores waiting for hours and sometimes days before the 3, 4, or even 5 a.m. opening time. Then, once inside, stories are often reported of people literally fighting over items. Is this what capitalism does? Turning ordinary people into maniacs?

Apparently so. I'm sure the family of Jdimytai Damour is experiencing that sentiment because the maniacs (shoppers, consumers, Americans, fucking assholes, whatever you want to call them) in the store reportedly kept shopping and even got pissed off once they were informed of this young man's death and the closing of the store for the rest of the day.

Poor soul...
I'm sure customer service won't be high on this store's list of priorities in the near future...
